An octogenarian was found dead Monday, September 7 at his home in Gujan-Mestras (Gironde) a few hours after having injured his wife with a hammer, we learned from the gendarmerie.

We found the lifeless body of this man when we entered the home,
" Gironde gendarmerie told AFP, without specifying the circumstances and the cause of the death of this 85-year-old man.

In the morning, he had struck his wife with "
an object resembling a hammer or a mallet
" and had entrenched himself at home, according to the gendarmes.
The woman was able to escape and was hospitalized but her vital prognosis is not engaged, according to the same source. The gendarmes had cordoned off the neighborhood after the report of this attack, without knowing if the man was armed. They entered the home after several hours, around 6:00 p.m.
