Orlane Kanor: "I'm not apprehensive about the start of the season"

2020-09-08T12:15:20.016Z

Metz's international full-back told Figaro that he "can't wait for the season to start" after such a long hiatus.

Orlane, how do you feel before attacking this new season of Ligue Butagaz Energie?

Orlane Kanor:

I feel good and can't wait for this to start.

It's been a while since I played an official match and I want to see what we can give on the pitch, individually and collectively.

The excitement takes precedence over the apprehension…

Yes, clearly.

I'm not afraid of the start of the season, I just want to play.

I want to resume competition because the friendly matches are very nice but they don't have the same flavor as a meeting with stakes.

In the current context, should we pay even more attention to ourselves, on and especially off the pitch?

We have to be very careful with our body.

We stopped for a very long time.

The positive side is that we had time to rest.

But the negative aspect is that when it comes time to start again, there are small injuries that happen.

You have to take them early.

You have to be careful of yourself because you don't know what can happen tomorrow, you can have Covid, the team can be stopped for a long time ... Recovery will also be very important this season.

All the physical aspect will be essential.

How do you deal with daily life?

Do you pay attention to every person you meet, every thing you do?

I think you always have to be careful when you're a top athlete.

Now, it is true that with this virus and the fact that we are doing a contact sport, we have to be extra careful.

There is a whole team behind, even a whole club around us.

Personally, however, I did not change my way of life because I did not go out often (smile).

After that, you can catch this virus anywhere and anytime, so it's tricky.

I try to be as careful as possible.

In terms of sport, what are you aiming for this season?

The championship or the Champions League?

Both ?

The goal is to be on top of everything.

When you play in a club like Metz, you have to have ambition.

Now, the two competitions have changed their formula, so it will be a question of being as efficient as possible from the start because the right to make mistakes will be less tolerated.

Afterwards, we did not set a specific goal, other than to be at the maximum.

We want to provide an enjoyable game for the spectators.

“This cut has neither cut my desire nor my determination.

On the contrary, I have even more desire than before. "

Are you worried that this long break could have broken the group dynamic, or yours?

I don't think so, or at least I don't think so.

Since I started again, I haven't felt that my level has dropped.

But if at the start of the championship I notice that I don't have the same level as before, then I would do everything to find it.

In any case, this cut has neither cut my desire, nor my determination.

On the contrary, I have even more desire than before.

Your coach in the France team, Olivier Krumbholz, feared a possible dropout of some players ...

Personally, no.

I still think so much about handball.

This cut made me want to do my job even more, to play with my partners, to experience competitions.

I understand that Olivier had this fear but as far as I'm concerned, he can be reassured: this confinement had the opposite effect by making me even more hungry for handball (smile).

As soon as I touched up a ball, I was very happy and so were my partners.

We inevitably experienced difficulties during the recovery, with pain in the shoulder or elsewhere.

But these quickly disappeared.

On July 24, did you have a thought for Tokyo and the Olympic Games in which you could have taken part?

Yes, I thought about it.

I told myself that if I had been selected, I would be there living this incredible adventure.

So yeah, it crossed my mind.

But hey, now we know that they will take place in 2021 - if all goes well with this health crisis - and we have to work further to be there.

Do you already think about it a lot?

No.

In fact, if I work out every day in training, it's to improve myself and try to be the best.

And of course, that means playing in the Olympics.

So subconsciously, yes, I think about it.

Are you afraid of this schedule which promises to be insane?

I am especially afraid of Covid cases and match postponements.

The worry today is not knowing what to expect in two weeks.

Each match may be the last for a period of time.

We are no longer masters of the calendar but it is the Covid that dictates everything.

It's like that.

The team that performs well will be the one that best adapts to all these uncertainties.
