Amatrice collapses trial, 5 sentences

(ANSA) - RIETI, 08 SEP - The Rieti Court sentenced all 5 defendants in the trial for the collapse of the two public housing blocks in Piazza Augusto Sagnotti in Amatrice following the earthquake of 24 August 2016. a total of 36 years were inflicted this morning, in Rieti, by the single judge Carlo Sabatini as part of the first instance trial for the collapse of two public buildings former Iacp of Amatrice, in Piazza AugustoSagnotti, following the earthquake that on 24 August 2016. Collapses caused the death of 18 people and the wounding of 3 others. The court, accepting the requests of the prosecutor Rocco Gustavo Maruotti, sentenced Ottaviano Boni, at the time technical director of the construction company Sogeap, to 9 years in prison, Luigi Serafini, sole director of the same company, at the age of 7 Franco Aleandri, then president of the Iacp, at the age of 5 Maurizio Scacchi, surveyor of the Lazio-GenioCivile Region, and at the age of 7 Corrado Tilesi, former councilor of the Municipality of Amatrice. All were charged with multiple manslaughter, negligent collapse, disaster and injury. The court also condemned all the accused and civilian responsible (Ater, Lazio Region and the Municipality of Amatrice) to compensation for damages against the civil parties to be quantified in the civil court. The sentence on the collapses of Piazza Sagnotti is the first in the context of the trials born from the investigations on the earthquake of Amatrice and Accumoli (ANSA).
