The United States accumulates more cases and deaths than any other country, while Brazil is the second nation with the highest number of deaths and the third in number of infections.
"The United States and Brazil account for almost three-quarters of all covid-19 cases in the Americas," the WHO said.
However, US President Donald Trump continues to assert that the country's death and case count is improving and compares favorably with those in Europe.
Covid-19 cases reported weekly by regions delimited by the WHO, and total deaths, from December 30 to September 6, 2020.
How these regions compare:

Together, the Americas account for 55% of all coronavirus deaths globally, with approximately one-seventh of the total world population.
