A team of experts in the field of food contamination has concluded that it is "unlikely" that food is a source of transmission of the Covid 19 infection caused by the Corona virus.
CNN quoted the International Committee for Microbiological Standards for Food as saying in a statement that "after looking at the evidence indicating that the emerging corona virus may be transmitted through food or through food packaging and containers ... we have found very little evidence about that."
The statement pointed out that “until now there has been no evidence that food, food containers, or handling food is an important source or route for transmission of the virus that causes Covid 19,” considering that “there are no foods that should be considered dangerous or warrant consideration as a vector for the virus.” .
The results of the committee reflect a previous report issued by the US Food and Drug Administration stating that there is no real risk of infection with the virus that causes Covid 19 disease through food or food containers, but the experts emphasized that it is wise to emphasize good food hygiene practices.
And concern about the transmission of the virus across surfaces began in late March after the release of a study published in the (New England) Journal of Medicine, while scientists indicated that the study did not take into account other factors that could help in disrupting the virus, such as sunlight, disinfectants, or looking at levels Different from the virus.
