For the first time since the game Madden 17 came out, Colin Kaepernick will make his return to the video game for its 2021 edition.

The company that develops the game, EA Sports, released an update on Tuesday allowing players to sign Kaepernick with any NFL team in the "career mode" feature.

Kaepernick played in the NFL, with the San Francisco 49ers jersey, until the 2016 season.

In 2017, he chose to be a free agent, but did not get a team in the top American football league in the United States.

In its final season, Kaepernick began kneeling during the US national anthem in protest against police brutality and racial injustice in that country.

In 2019, both Kaepernick and his former teammate Eric Reid reached an out-of-court settlement with the NFL after accusing the league's owners of plotting to prevent him from getting equipment.

Reid played for the Carolina Panthers in 2018 in 2019, but is now a free agent as well.

"Colin Kaepernick is one of the best free agents in American football, and he is a quarterback with the caliber of a starting player," said EA Sports in a statement.
