Public transport is supposed to become more attractive in Munich.
But soon there is another price increase at the MVV.
Commuters are not very enthusiastic about the measure.
Many cities value a
traffic turnaround
- and support the transition to
local public transport
.
In Munich the case is different.
Instead of "Green Mobility",
MVV
will soon
increase its prices
.
And that, although Bavaria
transfers financial aid
to the
MVG
due to
Corona
.
Commuters are horrified.
Update from September 9th, 10.15 p.m.:
Thursday will be serious.
In a joint meeting, the association council and the shareholders' meeting want to
decide
the future
prices for MVV tickets
(from December).
It is already clear that it will be more expensive (see below).
We are talking about four models that provide for different price increases -
between 2.8 and 5.1 percent
.
The variants apparently only differ in the question of how the increase is allocated to time and attendance cards.
In the previous year there was a zero round - as part of a comprehensive tariff reform.
Now it's getting more expensive.
We asked MVV passengers for their opinion:
MVV is turning the price screw in Munich: Green mobility?
The prices are getting more expensive
Sophia W. (student):
I'm a student and Munich is already very expensive for us.
I pay 196 euros for my IsarCard semester and other training tariffs are also more expensive instead of cheaper.
There are better offers for students in other cities: In Regensburg, for example, the ticket for public transport is integrated into the student ID.
I would like to see something like that in Munich.
Rüdiger S. (Purser at Lufthansa):
I only occasionally take public transport and then buy single tickets.
Still, I just don't think that a higher price is appropriate anymore.
We need green mobility, but that cannot come if the prices for public transport keep getting more expensive.
The Viennese are a good role model: The ticket costs 365 euros - Söder once announced it, but nothing comes.
I would be the first to kick all the cars out of the city center.
But it takes courage, and whether our red-green city council has that is questionable.

David M. (Union Secretary Verdi):
That is the wrong sign.
VAT will be reduced and the MVG will be more expensive.
We need more incentives for public transport.
It also worked with the new M tariff, it was really worth it for me, so I pay 10 euros less per month.
Now the effect is canceled out again.
Too bad.
MVV is increasing ticket prices in Munich - after a two-year break, it's getting more expensive again
Original article from September 8th:
Munich - Corona has enormous financial effects on transport companies.
The Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) alone lost
revenue of around 190 million euros
due to the
drop in passengers
.
Only recently had the Free State announced that it would be the first federal state to transfer financial aid to the transport company.
Bavaria receives a total of 381 million euros from the federal government for local transport.
Nevertheless, the
Münchner Verkehrsverbund (MVV)
now
wants to
raise
ticket prices
.
According to information from our newspaper, the association council and the shareholders' meeting of the transport association will decide to increase ticket prices tomorrow, Thursday.
We are talking about four variants that provide for different price increases - according to reports, between 2.8 and 5.1 percent.
Munich / MVV: Price increases are unavoidable, it is said from circles of the transport association
The
variants
apparently only differ in the question of how the increase is allocated to time and attendance cards.
The increase itself is therefore considered safe.
In the previous year there was a
clear round
for the first time
.
The reason was the tariff reform.
As a result, prices for commuters were reduced by an average of 7.2 percent.
The tariff increase is now
inevitable
, it is said from circles of the transport association.
But she will be moderate.
Robert Niedergesäß (CSU), district administrator in Ebersberg and spokesman for the district administrators in the
MVV area
, spoke on Tuesday of a "very moderate increase in the lower single-digit range".
The commuters would have had three very good years with only a small increase, a zero round and even a price decrease.
"It was clear that it couldn't go on forever."
The reason for the
price increase
in Munich * are
cost increases,
for example in wages. A
large room allowance
for Munich employees also contributes to the cost increases. However, the recent increase has nothing to do with the loss of income during the Corona crisis. "We are not allowed to pass these losses on to the passengers." For this purpose, a public transport rescue package from the federal and state governments has been decided. The number of
passengers
in the MVV area, which fell by
90 percent
at the beginning of the Corona crisis
, has now stabilized at 70 percent of the pre-Corona period.
