The mayor of Draveil and former secretary of state was accused by two ex-employees of sexual assault and rape.

Acquitted at the end of 2018, the appeal trial of Georges Tron must be held from January 19 to February 12, we learned Wednesday, September 9 from a judicial source.

Mayor LR of Draveil (Essonne) was initially to be retried in the spring alongside his former Culture Assistant, Brigitte Gruel, but the trial was postponed due to the coronavirus epidemic.

Facts dating back to 2007

Two women aged 42 and 44, Virginie Ettel and Eva Loubrieu, accuse them of having imposed touching and digital penetrations on them between 2007 and 2010 during three-way relationships.

The defendants, who have always claimed their innocence, were acquitted in November 2018 by the Seine-Saint-Denis Assize Court.

The prosecution appealed.

The appeal trial will take place before the Paris Assize Court.

At first instance, the Advocate General had requested six years in prison against Georges Tron and four against Brigitte Gruel.

He also demanded five years of ineligibility and their inclusion in the register of sex offenders.

The affair broke out in May 2011, ten days after the resounding arrest in New York of Dominique Strauss-Kahn, then head of the International Monetary Fund, accused of rape by a maid.

Georges Tron, a former deputy now aged 63, mayor of Draveil (30,000 inhabitants) since 1995, was forced to resign on May 29, 2011 from his post of Secretary of State for the Civil Service.

In February, the Paris Court of Appeal ordered that an investigation for witness tampering targeting Georges Tron be revived.

This case in the case focuses on possible pressure experienced by witnesses to the alleged sexual abuse.

The investigating chamber of the court of appeal reversed the dismissal pronounced by an investigating judge and ordered the continuation of the judicial investigation.

In this case, the defense of Mr. Tron lodged an appeal in cassation, which is not, however, suspensive.
