After years of demands, the cycle path from Gauting to Neuried is expected to be built in the coming year.

This is made possible by an exchange of land.

Neuried / Gauting - On the Münchner Berg at the exit of Gauting in the direction of Neuried, a banner has been emblazoned for five years with the inscription: “Where is the cycle path?” This question is now answered: At the meeting of the Gautinger's Environment, Energy and Transport Committee Local council on Tuesday was finally able to announce good news, environmental manager Wilhelm Rodrian.

The cycle path next to the busy M4 district road (in the Munich district) or STA3 (in the Starnberg district) from Gauting to Neuried will be built in 2021 - "if everything goes well".

A solution had already emerged a few weeks ago, but it would not go that fast.

Cyclists had already demonstrated for the cycle path five years ago.

Gauting's nature conservation officer Michaela Thiel, civil engineering engineer Beatrice Bruns and himself, Rodrian reported in the public meeting.

In close contact with the head of traffic from the responsible district office in Munich, the breakthrough was completely achieved.

The head of the department already has the verbal promise of the Heiliggeistspital Foundation Munich for the real estate deal initially negotiated by Harald Zipfel, Mayor of Neuried.

The foundation, which owns the forest area of Forst Kasten, has now agreed to an exchange of areas for the cycle path.

Michaela Thiel found a solution accepted by the foundation to compensate for the protected forest areas.

The nature conservation officer found a Gautingen property owner who is selling a large piece of forest to the Munich district, Rodrian explained yesterday on request.

On September 1, the Munich District Office also submitted the funding application for the construction of the cycle path between Gauting and Neuried.

According to the cost estimate, the new footpath and cycle path on the district road with land acquisition, clearing work and a new bus stop at the junction to Buchendorf and the popular excursion destination Forst Kasten will cost 4.252 million euros, Rodrian explained in an interview with Münchner Merkur.

If the exchange of space has been fully signed by the foundation representatives and the responsible district office in Munich and the funding application has been approved by the government of Upper Bavaria, the cycle path will be built next year.

His colleague from the Munich District Office, who most recently conducted the “intensive negotiations” with the Heiliggeistspital Foundation, is in any case very confident.
