One of them is in critical condition, as gusts of wind threaten to fan flames across the state. In Washington, the fires devastated more than 330,000 acres in 24 hours.

Wildfires continue to spread uncontrollably across California this Wednesday.

Gusts of wind threaten to fan the flames, both in the north, on the border with Oregon, and in the south of the state, authorities warned.

"The combination of very dry wind gusts, air and vegetation will create a critical fire hazard," the National Weather Service warned.

The state has at least 25 active fires that are still trying to put out about 14,000 firefighters.

"It is extraordinary, the challenge we have faced so far this season," Governor Gavin Newsom said.

More than 42,000 people throughout California remained under evacuation orders Tuesday, the governor said.

On Tuesday, 14 firefighters were hit by flames that destroyed a station in the Los Padres National Forest on the central coast of the state, the United States Forest Service said.

They suffered burns and smoke inhalation, and three were airlifted to a hospital in Fresno.

One of them was in critical condition.

In the northeast of the state, on the border with Oregon, the flames forced the evacuation of hundreds of people.

The fire within the Klamath National Forest, near Slater Butte Lookout, about 330 miles northwest of Sacramento, had swept through 22,000 acres Tuesday night, according to forest officials.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office, also in the north, ordered the entire community to leave.

Subsheriff Karl G. Houtman told Telemundo's sister network NBC News that the area has experienced fires in the past, but nothing like this.

"I don't remember ever evacuating an entire town," Houtman said.

The Sheriff's office was trying to help evacuate 1,200 people.

Although some structures have been damaged, Houtman said no houses have been lost yet.

National, state and local firefighters are fighting the flames in harsh conditions, with temperatures expected to reach 102 degrees and winds of up to 25 miles per hour.

The flames reached the state of Oregon, and entered the city of Medford, with a population of about 85,000, according to authorities.

There are evacuation orders in both this city and Phoenix, to the southeast, with 4,500 residents.

On Tuesday 52 people were rescued from the fire in the Sierra National Forest, in the central part of the state, which has so far destroyed 365 buildings.

Of these, at least 45 homes and 5,000 structures were threatened, firefighters said.

More than 143,000 acres have burned and the fire was 0% contained as of Tuesday afternoon.

In Southern California, fires burned in Los Angeles, San Bernardino and San Diego counties, and were forecast to reach the city of Santa Anas.

Hot, dry winds reach 50 miles per hour.

In East Los Angeles, half a dozen communities were warned to stay alert due to a fire in the Los Angeles National Forest.

Two of the three largest fires in state history burn in the San Francisco Bay Area, though they are largely under control after burning for three weeks.

California has already set a record with nearly 2.3 million acres burned this year, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

And the worst part of the wildfire season is just beginning

More blackouts are expected Wednesday and power is expected to be fully restored through Wednesday night.

Washington

The fires devastated more than 330,000 acres in 24 hours in Washington state, the governor said.

At least two of the nine fires recorded in the state remained strong Tuesday.

The two largest fires are Pearl Hill, in Douglas County, at 174,000 acres, and Cold Springs, near Omak, at 163,000 acres.

The fire destroyed 80% of Malden and half of the buildings in neighboring Pine City were also destroyed.

No deaths have been reported.
