The Lebanese President, General Michel Aoun, called for an investigation into the causes of the fire that occurred today in the Beirut port, and the perpetrators to be held accountable.
Aoun stressed in a speech during the meeting of the Supreme Defense Council in Lebanon under his chairmanship that "work today must focus on effective measures to ensure that what happened does not happen again," adding that the fire "may be an intentional act of sabotage or the result of a technical error, ignorance or negligence, and in all cases." The reason must be known as soon as possible and the perpetrators held accountable.
Aoun requested the formation of a committee headed by the Lebanese Minister of Public Works that includes representatives of the security services and the port company to lay down a new organization for working in the port and ensuring public safety in it.
