The Water Resources Directorate in Al-Hasakah governorate closed the gates of the martyr Basil al-Assad dam after the completion of the fourth irrigation watering the summer crops located on the bed of the Khabur River in the southern region, up to the administrative borders of Deir Ezzor Governorate.
The assistant director of water resources, Aziz Mikhail, stated in a statement to the SANA reporter today that the fourth irrigation lasted 5 days and aimed to irrigate 4 thousand hectares planted with summer crops such as cotton and vegetables, as the consumed quantities in the irrigation amounted to about 10 million cubic meters from the storage of the Martyr Basil Al-Assad Dam, to become the amount of stored water quantities. It currently has 496 million cubic meters.
He pointed out that the total quantities stored in the governorate's dams are currently about 600 million cubic meters, and most of the dams have storage ratios of about 70 percent, as agricultural irrigation plans will be developed on these dams to implement the next winter planting plan.
As of last June, the directorate launched 3 irrigation schemes at a rate of one per month to irrigate the summer crops.
