It could be any propaganda pamphlet, but the headline doesn't do it justice.
It is signed by Peter Hessler in
The New Yorker
magazine
and
has provoked a very heated debate: the author has been accused of praising the management of Beijing during the pandemic and of not mentioning the sins of the regime.
An Australian academic sarcastically describes the text as a China kumbayá, a bonfire and guitar song to whitewash the world's most powerful dictatorship.
