Hello, I am Dr. Elmer Huerta and this is your daily dose of information about the new coronavirus, information that we hope will be useful to take care of your health and that of your family.

Today we will answer some questions that they have left us on our Twitter account @drhuerta.

Questions about the covid-19 test

@drhuerta good day.

How long do we have to wait to get tested for COVID, if today a person with whom you had contact a short time ago tests positive and reports?

What measures should I take before and after the test while I wait for my result?

Greetings and thanks.

- Antonio Flores (@Xuanto) September 10, 2020

Good question Antonio.

You must assume that you are infected and protect your family by isolating yourself and wearing a mask until symptoms appear or have a molecular test within the first 14 days after contact.

@drhuerta doctor good evening I tested positive for Covid-19 but I had symptoms in June and I took the test on August 29 that means that I am asymptomatic

- eduar (@ Luis28942488) September 8, 2020

Hi Eduar.

The fact that you have had a positive serological test more than two months after your infection does not mean that you still have it and are asymptomatic.

It is normal for a person to have a positive immunoglobulin G serologic test weeks after infection.

Docto two questions please, if someone was infected 6 months ago can it still be detected?

How do you distinguish an immunoglobulin M or G produced against Covid-19 from another produced against another coronavirus?

If, as you indicate, there are many corona viruses in the world.

- dguille (@dguillega) September 7, 2020

Good question Guille.

Unfortunately there is no test that proves the infection that long after it has occurred.

@drhuerta hello dr I got sick from covid treat me at home to seem better but sometimes I still get lung pain and sometimes suddenly I get a pain in the heart is only once a day

- abigail (@ abigail87843998) September 7, 2020

Good question Miguel.

Your test may be false negative.

That is, you have the virus but for some reason inherent to the test or the way the sample was obtained, it has come out negative.

Assessment of symptoms and history of contact with a positive person are more important than testing.

@drhuerta I have a question, the #WHO chief of scientists says there will be no vaccines until 2021… is that so?

I don't believe anything to the #OMS anymore

- Maria Libertad 💙 Isolation (@Maria_Libertad_) September 9, 2020

Hello Jenny, so far only two cases of covid-19 reinfection have been scientifically described.

It is impossible to answer your question, but you should see your doctor.

@drhuerta

It will be possible that contagion by other respiratory viruses could give temporary immunity against covid.

19

- Facundo Hashimoto (@ FacundoHashimo2) September 8, 2020

Excellent question Facundo.

There is a theory that previous infections with the first four coronaviruses, which cause colds, can give cross immunity to this new coronavirus.

Other respiratory viruses - from different virus families - do not provide that protection.

Questions about the aftermath of the coronavirus

Dr. Huerta, find a case that shows serious cardiac sequelae in patients who had mild symptoms of covid19.

Will you have scientific evidence of cardiac sequelae?

- Rolan Ignacio (@rolan_ignacio) September 10, 2020

As we mentioned in the July 30 episode, a study published in the JAMA Cardiology Journal on July 27 describes that patients with mild or moderate covid-19 can present with cardiac complications of varying intensity.

What is the treatment finally, for mild and / or moderate cases?

Paracetamol, as I heard in @RPPNoticias interview @drhuerta or a chicken or chicken broth with vegetables !!!

- Kike Villacorta (@kikevillacorta) September 9, 2020

Mild or moderate cases of Covid-19 can be treated at home with the same medications that you can buy without a prescription, such as paracetamol.

It is advisable to be well hydrated, and if you like chicken broth, there is no problem in consuming it.

Doubts about the covid-19 vaccine

@drhuerta I have a question, the #WHO chief of scientists says there will be no vaccines until 2021… is that so?

I don't believe anything to the #OMS anymore

- Maria Libertad 💙 Isolation (@Maria_Libertad_) September 9, 2020

Everything is speculation María, but while it is true that the big capitals may have the vaccine in the second half of 2021, it is possible that much of the planet will barely have access to the vaccine during the year 2022.

Dear @DrHuerta, I am interested in offering my voluntary support for the SPUCNIK5 RUSSIAN VACCINE, phase III.

I consider myself viable and representative (but not representative for :) I am 76 years old, without vice of any kind, stable health, occasional hypertension but controlled.

- Alfredo Paniagua (@ Alfredo90970072) September 8, 2020

Good question Alfredo.

If the trial is available in your country, contact the organizers to determine if you are a good candidate.

Congratulations on your intention to participate.

Activities during the pandemic

@drhuerta How safe is it today to go to a hairdresser?

I live in Tijuana where the COVID 19 index is still high, is it better to see the hairdresser in the backyard of my house?

- Frank B Siqueiros (@ FrankBSiqueiro1) September 9, 2020

Any enclosed space is of moderate or high risk to get the new coronavirus, Frank.

If you have the facility to get your hair cut in your backyard, do it.

Always wearing masks.

@drhuerta Dr. Good morning, can we go to the personalized Saunas right now?

- paola nogueira d (@paolitanogueira) September 8, 2020

Remember that the virus is in the respiratory system of people, Paola.

If that place has been properly cleaned after the previous user and you are going to be alone in that environment, I don't think there is any problem with you using it.

@drhuerta a person is detected covid x molecular test. During his quarantine I only had slight body pain. Now he returns to work without a test because they mention that the test will continue to be positive. Contagious or not?

Thank you for absolve the pgta

- Marita Zamora (@ zamolina17) September 7, 2020

Good question Marita.

Yes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States, it is possible to return to work only with the discharge from your doctor, without the need for a test.

dc @drhuerta in his program a prevention method is with oximeters, I bought through amazon and more shipping costs $ 40, here it is at $ 70, but as a medicine you need a prescription?

- Juan Polo (@jgpol) September 10, 2020

Good question Juan.

No, you do not need a prescription to buy a pulse oximeter.

They are available over the counter.

@drhuerta greetings!

Are there any contraindications to running for a long time (1 hour or more) in open spaces using a mask?

- Jimmy Cóndor (@jimfcc) September 5, 2020

Aside from the discomfort caused by the dampness of the mask and the sensation of heat, there are no studies that show that the level of oxygenation is different, Jimmy.

@drhuerta Doctor, what are the requirements to be a convalescent plasma donor?

- Jorge Eduardo (@ JorgeEd60925402) September 7, 2020

Excellent question Jorge.

According to the American Red Cross, the requirements to be a donor are: be at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds or 50 kilos, be in good physical health and feel good, even if you have a chronic disease.

Finally, having had a previous and verified diagnosis of covid-19, but being without symptoms at the time of donation.

Contagion

Doctor, I have twice had severe headaches and a weight in the throat with a slight cough.

Would that be any symptoms?

I take medicine and then it passes but after a few days it comes back

- Liz (@ Liz88913138) September 7, 2020

If you live in a geographic area with a high prevalence of covid-19, those symptoms may be indicative that you have covid-19, Liz.

You must assume that you are infected, protect your family by wearing a mask, practicing social distance and visiting your doctor.

@drhuerta hello dr I got sick from covid treat me at home to seem better but sometimes I still get lung pain and sometimes suddenly I get a pain in the heart is only once a day

- abigail (@ abigail87843998) September 7, 2020

As we mentioned in the Sept. 3 episode, those symptoms may be the sequelae of covid-19, Abigail.

According to British researchers, it is possible that up to 10% of those who have overcome the infection, may be left with persistent covid (up to 4 months later) or chronic covid (beyond 4 months after infection).

@drhuerta A concern about the "outbreaks" of # SARSCoV2: why if there is a similar "social" behavior in European countries such as England, Spain, France and Italy, the number of new cases of infections are so different?

@ZulmaCucunuba

- Alvaro Gonzalez (@ agonzalez_1975) September 6, 2020

Excellent question Álvaro, but it is possible that despite having apparently similar social systems, there are different individual behaviors in the population of those countries.

It is an excellent research topic.

Hello @drhuerta. Is it true that a person who has previously suffered from Pneumonia is more prone to complications if they catch COVID-19?

- Maira (@mairagl) September 5, 2020

Hello Maira, unless that pneumonia has left chronic respiratory complications, such as bronchiectasis or another problem, the simple history of pneumonia is not a risk factor for complications from covid-19.
