Lara Holzhauer could not build on her strong performances from the previous year at the German U18 championships in Heilbronn.

Nevertheless, the Geretsriederin ran a new season best over 400 meter hurdles.

Geretsried

- From vacation straight to the track - that's the motto for the athletes at TuS Geretsried.

The season, which started late, reached its peak for Lara Holzhauer and Xaver Seelos at the weekend.

While the important competitions are usually planned for June and July, this time it was only in September to be in top form.

Not only did the summer holidays make normal preparation difficult, but also the recurring question of when and whether championships can take place at all.

There were several cancellations during the season.

Among them, for example, the European Junior Championships and the country comparison in Brixen.

All the more difficult for the athletes to stay motivated and to be fully there at the right moment.

Accordingly, the German Championships in Heilbronn did not go completely smoothly for the 400-meter hurdler Lara Holzhauer.

After the strong fourth place last year, this time it was not quite enough to make it into the final.

With 64.49 seconds, however, she managed a new season best.

"With two weeks of preparation and three weeks of vacation before that, it's difficult, even if she trained there according to plan," sums up coach Mirko Naumann.

With the season best performance, however, the U 18 athlete showed increasing form and showed that the holiday torture was not in vain.

There are still opportunities for medals and fast times.

"Now it is important to conclude the season at the Upper Bavarian and Bavarian Championships in a forgiving manner and to look ahead," says Naumann.

Team mate Xaver Seelos can look forward to a successful performance at the Bavarian U16 championships.

In Erding, the high jumper just barely missed a medal with a new personal best of 1.71 meters.

A remarkable achievement, especially since the athlete had only returned from vacation three days earlier.

"It would even have been 1.74 meters, which would have meant third place, but in the end there were too many jumps", says Naumann.

Three unsuccessful attempts at 1.66 and 1.71 meters were the reason that in the end, fifth instead of a podium came out.

No need to be disappointed.

“The coach and the athlete are satisfied.

The development is very positive, ”says Naumann happily.

Now it is up to the TuS athletes to bring the "late season" to a good end and to hope for a normal year 2021.
