The American film "Nomadland" directed by Chloe Chow, a Chinese director who resides in the United States, won the Best Picture Award at the Venice Film Festival.

Reuters reported that Nomadland, which means "nomadic land," talks about a group of van residents as they cross the vast American West, starring Francis McDormand, who plays the role of a widow in the sixties who turns her van into a mobile home and works seasonal jobs throughout the journey.

On the other hand, the veteran Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky received a special award from the jury for the film "Der Kamrid", meaning "Dear Comrades," which deals with the story of the striking massacre in Novosibirsk and was a candidate for the Golden Lion Award.

British actress Vanessa Kirby, who went to Venice in two films, won the best actress award for performing the role of a woman who lost her baby during a home birth in the movie "Bess of Women", meaning "a woman's wreck," while the best actor award went to Italian Pierre Francesco Favino.

The festival imposed a strict health safety protocol, which included wearing masks while watching movies and leaving about half of the seats in the exhibition halls empty, especially since the festival is the first event of its kind organized in the presence of an audience since the outbreak of the Corona virus.
