Berlin - On Saturday,
demonstrations
against
corona measures
took place
again
in
Munich
and
Wiesbaden
.
Several thousand people took to the streets to demonstrate against the
conditions imposed
because of the
pandemic
.
Again and again criticism is voiced that supporters of
right-wing ideologies
mingle with the demonstrators or even belong to the organizers.
This
has already led to heated debates in
politics
.
In her weekly
video podcast
,
Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU)
emphasized the right to criticize the conditions as an expression of democracy and freedom of expression.
Her thanks, however, went to others.
Corona measures: Angela Merkel (CDU) thanks citizens in her video message
“We in Germany can consider ourselves lucky that
democracy
and
freedom
, the rule of law and political co-responsibility are firmly anchored in us.
That this has been the case in all of Germany since the regaining of German unity almost exactly 30 years ago is something I personally feel very lucky, ”said the
Chancellor
.
A look at other states shows that "unfortunately this cannot be taken for granted," she said, referring to the situation in Belarus, among other things.
In her
video message
she thanked
"the vast majority of citizens" who supported the measures, also out of concern "for the weaker in society".
This helped "to prevent the uncontrolled spread of the pandemic".
Understanding for the anti-corona demonstrators: Angela Merkel (CDU) in her video message
What is unusual, however, is that
Merkel's message
is also directed at the demonstrators - with an understanding attitude.
Merkel said of the demonstrations that she is aware "that some people are
struggling
with the
restrictions
resulting from the
corona pandemic,
" and then added clearly: "I understand that."
And then she became very personal again: Many of the decisions for restrictions were "very difficult for her, too, the
contact
restrictions and the restrictions on cultural life are"
democratic impulses,
"said Merkel.
"The fact that the very great majority of
citizens
and
citizens
mitträgt this," but showed "how pronounced our sense of community is," stressed
Merkel
results further.
The
Corona measures
"have worked and remain important".
Nonetheless, “everyone is free to openly criticize these government decisions.” With a view to the
protests
against the
Corona measures
, she said: “Everyone can express their position in peaceful demonstrations”.
