Washington-SANA

Wildfires raging in parts of the US state of Oregon have prompted nearly half a million of its residents to stay on alert for mass evacuations.

Reuters reported that the fire destroyed thousands of homes during the past days in Oregon, which has become the latest focus of fires that spread more widely in the summer and swept across the American West, which led to the burning of large areas the size of the state of New Jersey, and the killing of at least 25 people.

For their part, Oregon officials warned of the possibility of mass deaths while searching in the charred rubble of dozens who were reported missing.

In the context, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection stated that tens of thousands of firefighters made strenuous efforts to extinguish 28 large fires in the state's forests, noting that most of those fires were contained, except for a fire in Siskiyo County that got out of control.

The strong winds that continued for days fanned the flames, becoming one of the largest fires recorded in California and Oregon in the midst of a period of record temperatures.

It is noteworthy that the fires devoured more than four thousand homes and other buildings in California during the past three weeks.
