Kochel am See

- "Demonstrating is one thing, changing something is the other": This is the motto of the Kochler SPD.

Therefore, after the “slow down” rally in August, the party is now following up with specific local political demands: On behalf of the Social Democrats, Klaus Barthel has submitted a corresponding application to the local council.

As reported, the local association under its chairman Sebastian Salvamoser organized the demonstration in Kochel and thus gave a voice to the protest against the traffic congestion, especially on excursion days.

Since then, according to Salvamoser, "some things have started to move, and many feel motivated to take part and hopefully contribute more ideas to ease the burden."

When it comes to traffic, SPD Kochel calls for an overall concept rather than piecemeal

The application states that the municipal council should adopt a transport concept for the entire municipality in the first half of 2021 at the latest.

Before this, this should be discussed broadly with citizens, authorities as well as associations and clubs.

According to the SPD, the concept should then be implemented during the current term of office - with individual measures this could of course be the case much earlier.

"Our aim is to design an overall concept instead of continuing to operate piecemeal through individual, often ill-conceived actions," says Salvamoser.

The SPD names a number of goals that are to be achieved with the help of the traffic concept.

This includes the relief of the residents "from motorized individual traffic, from noise, exhaust gases and unregulated parking", it says in the application.

In general, according to the comrades, the municipality should give priority to public transport as well as cyclists and pedestrians.

The concept also gives high priority to security and accessibility.

All in all, it is also intended as a contribution to the turnaround in traffic and climate protection.

According to the SPD's request, the local council and administration should review some very specific measures, such as a “general speed limit of 30 km / h on all local roads”.

Another suggestion from the party: "Bicycle protection lanes on all suitable roads, especially on the B 11 along the entire length of the local area, including Ried, Urfeld, Walchensee and on Kesselberg, Schlehdorfer and Alten Strasse".

Alternatively, the creation of alternative routes suitable for bicycles should be sought.

In the center and at the train station, parking is to be free, at the lake more expensive

As reported, the Weilheim State Building Authority had already laid out bicycle protection strips in Kochel these days - on a test basis over a distance of 1.6 kilometers between the “home stage” and the southern end of the village.

This step met with a mixed response on site.

The SPD also proposes a “new system of parking space management”.

Accordingly, parking in the center and at the train station should be free of charge.

In return, parking by the lake and in the leisure areas, such as on the Kesselberg and in and around Walchensee, would be more expensive.

Furthermore, the comrades suggest a sufficiently large, covered parking space for bicycles at the train station and the use of local buses.

Block handling at the entrance to Kochel suggested for peak times

The municipality cannot solve many traffic problems on its own.

Therefore, according to the application, the municipality should advocate a number of further measures with the supra-local competent authorities.

The proposal to relieve the so-called “blessing curve” in the town center by setting up a “block clearance” at the town entrances at peak times could cause controversy.

This should be regulated according to the ideas of the local association with the help of traffic lights.

The SPD is also proposing more zebra crossings and crossing aids, for example at the Franz Marc Museum, in Ried, Urfeld and Walchensee.

Public transport should be given priority on the thoroughfares through appropriate traffic lights.

Overall, the SPD advocates the expansion of public transport and calls for “effective measures against motorcycle noise”.

For the implementation, it is necessary to check which funding is available from the federal government, the Free State and the EU.

It is also conceivable to “present Kochel as a model community for dealing with intensive tourism in times of climate change”.
