The Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court today (Sunday) sentenced model Bar Refaeli to nine months of community service, and her mother, Tzipi Refaeli, to 16 months in prison, after the two were convicted of a number of tax offenses in July, in accordance with the plea agreement signed with the Tax and Economics Prosecutor's Office.

In addition, each of them will pay a fine of NIS 2.5 million.

Tzipi Refaeli will start serving his prison sentence next week.

Judge Dana Amir said that "this is the commission of offenses at the highest level of tax offenses. There is no real significance to Kula that defendant Bar had no business experience."

At the heart of the case was the question of whether the international model was a resident of Israel in the years 2012-2009, during which, according to estimates by the Tax Authority, she generated revenues of about NIS 24 million.

According to the amended indictment, in which the mother and daughter pleaded guilty to the offenses attributed to them, they committed a series of actions to evade paying tax on the same income.

For example, the mother was concerned that in the three fractured apartments she lived in in Israel in those years, it was written that the tenants were her brother or the mother herself.

A second charge relates to the years 2007-2014, and relates to commissions of NIS 2.5 million received by Tzipi Refaeli for Bar's work as a model abroad. "In order to evade tax on these commissions, the agencies transferred the commissions to bank accounts abroad in Bar Refaeli's name or "Accounts of companies under its control. Or to other foreign accounts," the prosecution says.

"Tzipi Refaeli did not report in the annual reports she submitted to the income tax."

A similar, but separate, indictment states that the mother and daughter did not report NIS 4.5 million in revenue earned in 2007. The funds were deposited in the account of a company called Sweet Life, which was established in Singapore and was controlled by Bar Refaeli - and was not reported to Israeli tax authorities.

A fourth charge concerns the "celebrity discounts" Bar received in 2015-2009.

Refers to the practice whereby a company gives celebrities its products for free or at exorbitant discounts, in order to gain positive publicity from the very use of the celeb in the product.

In those years, the celeb discounts that Bar received were worth NIS 2.5 million.

Among other things, she received a discount on the payment of rent in the luxury towers Yoo and W, and a discount on the price of the land for buying an apartment in a project called "Blue".
