Now official football in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is also affected.

At 1. FC, a player tested positive for Covid-19.

A large part of the team is in quarantine at home.

The player works in the US Edelweiss Lodge.

  • 14 players, as well as coaches and supervisors are in quarantine

  • Infected player took part in the training

  • Same employer as the super spreader

Garmisch-Partenkirchen -

The market town is the new Corona hotspot.

That is bitter certainty.

No wonder that sport is quickly involved.

It has now hit the footballers.

Almost the entire national league squad of 1. FC Garmisch-Partenkirchen is in quarantine at home.

It is not quite as dramatic at SG Oberau / Farchant, which canceled all test games.

Player works in US Edelweiss Lodge

Last Thursday, Arne Albl, sports director at 1. FC, received the information that one of his players had contact with an infected person.

He went to the test and received the positive result on Friday.

It is an employee of the US Edelweiss Lodge.

The 26-year-old American woman, who is known as the “super spreader”, is also employed there, who was out and about in the nightlife of the market town despite symptoms and the prescribed quarantine.

On Tuesday, September 8th, the players from 1. FC took part in team training for the last time.

Only the next day did he have direct contact with his work colleague, but before that with other employees who have meanwhile also tested positive.

The consequence for the 1st FC: off to isolation at home.

A total of 18 people, 14 players as well as trainers and supervisors are affected.

They have all shown no symptoms so far, have had themselves tested and are now waiting for the results.

"I hope that everyone is negative," emphasizes Albl.

His ulterior motive is not of a sporting nature.

He wishes that the chain of infection would not continue, that his players would not have carried the virus any further.

Christoph Saller, coach of 1. FC, calls for the alleged perpetrator to be “harshly punished” and speaks of “incomprehensible and irresponsible” behavior.

Albl strikes a quieter tone and does not want to pillory anyone whose guilt has not been 100 percent proven.

“Of course, those who show symptoms have no place in the nightlife.

It's unfortunate, but you have to reckon with it, it can happen to anyone anywhere, ”said the sports director.

1. FC is sticking to the restart date for the time being

The fact that it hits 1. FC right now shortly before the restart is no break in the leg.

The quarantine ends on September 22nd and cannot be undermined by negative test results.

Four days later, the first game in the national league is at home against VfB Durach.

Until then, Saller asks his men to do virtual training.

That is not optimal, but no reason to postpone the restart now, says Albl.

At 1. FC they don't want to go it alone to decide whether the game will actually be played.

"We're getting the players on board," emphasizes Saller.

For the time being, there are no further consequences for 1. FC.

"That happened once, you can get injured just as quickly," says Albl.

But with a second, third or fourth incident, everything could change.

“Some players then say that they cannot afford to be absent for weeks at work.” They also have to think in the other direction.

Employers could encourage their employees to stop exercising.

“I would have complete understanding for that.

We're talking about a hobby here, ”emphasizes Albl.

Two suspected cases at the SG Oberau / Farchant

Meanwhile, there is a cautious all-clear at Gießenbach.

The SG was also contacted by the health department.

The reason was two actors in the A-Class who were identified as contact persons in a corona case.

There are now negative results for both kickers.

Since the contact was further back in time, the SG is spared the quarantine.

All that remains is to clarify whether the affected person has to have another smear test.

The test matches of the first and second were canceled as a precaution.

Nevertheless, the Oberau are sticking to their start of the season.
