The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) today adopted a draft resolution by the majority documenting the aggressive practices of the Israeli occupation and the effects and severe damage it has caused developmentally, socially and economically on the people of the occupied Syrian Golan and the Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The adoption of the resolution entitled “The economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the Syrians in the occupied Syrian Golan” came after a recorded vote was held and it obtained the support of 47 countries, while three countries opposed it, “the United States, Canada and Australia.” 4 countries voted.

The representative of the permanent delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic in the attached meeting, Majd Niall, through his intervention, expressed the appreciation of the government of the Syrian Arab Republic for the report of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) on which the draft resolution was based, especially its documentation of the long-term implications of the Israeli occupation on the Palestinian territories and the Syrian Golan. The occupier and the extremely harmful effects this occupation has on the living conditions of the Palestinians and the people of the Syrian Golan and on the social and economic development of the occupied lands.

The permanent delegation affirmed Syria's strong rejection of the reports and statements indicating the existence of a scheme by the Israeli occupation authorities aimed at expanding settlements in the occupied Syrian Golan and increasing the number of settlers.

The permanent delegation reviewed the aggressive practices carried out by the Israeli occupation in the occupied Syrian Golan, which have dangerous repercussions on the Syrian citizens, such as changes in the curricula currently taught in schools, which aim to influence young students in an attempt to separate them from their Syrian identity.

The delegation pointed out what the occupation authorities are doing in terms of imposing arbitrary measures to register lands with the aim of confiscating them and implementing the giant fans scheme on the lands of the sons of the occupied Syrian Golan.

It is noteworthy that the resolution won the support of 45 countries in last year's session, against the objection of two "the United States and Canada" and two abstentions.
