Japanese food has always been loved by the people of Hong Kong, especially when the new crown pneumonia epidemic is raging around the world this year, Hong Kong people cannot go to the local area to enjoy Japanese food in person, so they can only taste Japanese food in Hong Kong, driving the import of Japanese food. The value has greatly increased.

According to trade data from Japan's Ministry of Finance, the number of eggs, beef and pork exported to Hong Kong increased significantly in the first seven months of this year.

Hong Kong has always been the most important exporter of Japanese eggs.

Of the locally exported eggs, 97% are exported to Hong Kong.

In the first seven months of this year, the total export value of eggs was 2.32 billion yen, an increase of 97% year-on-year; the export volume doubled to 9,125 tons, and exceeded the level of the whole year of 2019.

Some reports even cited Japanese egg producers as pointing out that the current upward trend in egg exports has not stopped and orders for November have been received.

Pork exports to Hong Kong increased by 1.5 times

Why is Hong Kong the most important export destination for Japanese eggs?

Like eggs, the main export destination of Japanese pork is Hong Kong, which accounts for 72% of the total export volume.

Although the above three agricultural products are well received by Hong Kong consumers, in the first seven months of this year, the country's overall exports of agricultural, forestry and aquatic products still fell by 6.7%.
