The children returned with their mother and they were entrusted to the father by a decision of a children's judge

," the public prosecutor in Metz, Christian Mercuri, told AFP.

Their return to France on Friday is the fruit of "

", which convinced the mother to return, he added.

The two children, aged 6 and 10, are doing well.

An investigation for "

" was opened by the Metz prosecutor's office after the alert on August 5 from the father of the two boys.

He had discovered that his ex-wife's phone number was no longer assigned and that the apartment she was living in had been emptied.

The investigations had established that the 33-year-old mother, her two sons and her second husband had left the Moselle on the night of August 4 to 5 to catch a plane from an airport in Germany.

They had moved to Afghanistan, the country where her new spouse is from.

Divorced since 2016, the couple had smoothly set up joint custody until difficulties appeared in the summer of 2019, after a trip by the mother, who converted to Islam, and her husband in Afghanistan, had explained Arnaud Blanc, the lawyer for the father of the family.

A children's judge was seized in December 2019 and an educational assistance measure had been put in place, but the ban on leaving the country for the two boys, requested by the father, had been refused.
