Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that the constitutional amendments in Belarus are an internal affair that no one should interfere with.
In response to a question about whether the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian Alexander Lukashenko touched on the constitutional amendments planned in Belarus, Peskov said, according to Sputnik: “So far, of course, we cannot say some details and we cannot talk about them. This is an internal affairs process in Belarus. ”
He added, "Yes, Putin announced his support for this process, but no one should interfere in it in any way, neither Moscow nor other European capitals."
Peskov had announced earlier that the Russian president and his Belarusian counterpart would meet in Sochi today. Putin had previously stated during his meeting with Lukashenko that he was aware of the proposal to start work on the Belarus constitution, stressing that the proposal was logical and came at the appropriate time.
