Renaud Girard: "The inconceivable denial of Boris Johnson"

CHRONICLE - The British Prime Minister has tabled a bill, certain provisions of which openly violate an international treaty that he had negotiated and had ratified at the end of 2019.


The British Parliament, the oldest democratic institution in the world still in office, saw, on Monday September 14, 2020, one of the most extraordinary things in its centuries-old history: the denial by the same government of its most solemn commitments.

The Prime Minister of His Gracious Majesty tabled there the draft of a law, known as the internal market, certain provisions of which openly violate an international treaty that the same Boris Johnson had negotiated and ratified at the end of 2019, and which entered into force on February 1, 2020. It is not certain that this bill will pass the Commons then the Lords.

But, in legislative matters, this behavior of

He was condemned by five former prime ministers, three of whom are, like Boris Johnson, members of the Conservative Party.
