Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed during a telephone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry the situation in the Middle East region, especially in Syria and Libya.
In a statement carried by Sputnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Lavrov and Shukri reiterated during the call yesterday the need to support the political track to resolve the crisis in Syria in a manner that guarantees its territorial integrity and strict respect for its sovereignty.
On the other hand, Lavrov and Shoukry stressed that there is no alternative to a peaceful solution to the crisis in Libya and welcomed the statements of the Libyan parties regarding the cessation of hostilities between them and the start of political dialogue.
On the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, Lavrov stressed that the main condition for establishing permanent peace in the Middle East region is resolving the Palestinian issue in accordance with the relevant international resolutions, pointing to his country's support for finding a comprehensive settlement of this issue as a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
