(CNN Spanish) -

This Tuesday a very peculiar draw is held: the presidential plane of Mexico is raffled.

Well more or less.

What is the giveaway about?

What are the prizes?

What does the president say?

How much money is it expected to raise?

What will the funds be used for?

What if no one has the winning ticket?

This is what you should know.

What is the presidential plane raffle about?

September 15 is the date on which the winner of the draw for the Mexican presidential plane, which has generated controversy in the country, will be known.

In February, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that the prize would not be the plane itself, but cash.

In this way, the president said, all Mexicans could participate in the raffle.

Sale of the raffle tickets began on March 1.

6 million tickets were distributed, each with a cost of 500 Mexican pesos, about US $ 26.

More than 3,000 street vendors in the metropolitan area and more than 2,600 in the rest of the country would be in charge of selling the tickets.

Were all the tickets sold?

According to figures from the National Lottery, by September 11, 4,179,000 tickets had been sold, equivalent to 69.6% of the total available.

In the event that the winning ticket has not been sold, according to the director of the National Lottery, Ernesto Prieto Ortega, the prize will be delivered to the Institute of Health and Wellbeing (Insabi).

According to Prieto Ortega, revenues as of September 11 were 2,089.5 million pesos, about US $ 99 million.

Part of the 'cachitos' was bought by the Government itself, through different organizations such as Insabi.

What is the presidential plane like?

It is a Boeing 787 Dreamliner of special configuration with registration TP-01.

The latest generation aircraft has a capacity for 80 passengers.

It is divided into several zones: a private rest area for the president, a meeting room, an area reserved for the press that accompanies the president on tours, and other amenities.

The TP-01 has a flight range of up to 20 hours.

With a load of fuel you can travel more than 13,000 km, in other words: you can travel from Mexico City to China without stopping.

Named José María Morelos y Pavón, the Mexican Air Force plane was purchased by the Government for US $ 218 million.

Today it is worth US $ 130 million.

Since his presidential campaign, López Obrador characterized him as a symbol of the waste of previous administrations.

That is why he promised to sell it and use the money collected in social programs.
