Outgoing winner of the Tour de France, the Colombian Egan Bernal retires in this 2020 edition and will therefore not take the start of the 17th stage, announced his team Ineos.
“We made this decision in his best interest.
Egan is a great champion who loves to run, but he is also a young rider, who will compete a lot of the Tour and at this stage we think it is wiser for him to stop racing ”, said his manager. Dave Brailsford in a statement.
The Colombian, 16th overall, was in great pain during the last two stages.
Egan Bernal has withdrawn from the Tour de France ahead of stage 17.
