Vice President of the German Left Party Parliamentary Bloc, Sevim Dagdelen, criticized today the German government’s continued export of weapons to the Turkish regime in light of international tensions in the eastern Mediterranean, describing the matter as a "scandal."
German newspaper Die Welt quoted Dagdelen as saying that it is a shame that the German government continues to arm Turkey in light of military provocations in the eastern Mediterranean, as well as explicit threats of war against members of the European Union, Greece and Cyprus, and is still being rewarded with weapons from Germany, "noting that" this type of Exports must be reduced to zero.
The newspaper pointed out that the German government approved arms exports worth about 22.85 million euros to Turkey, and the volume of exports approved this year is expected to exceed the previous year.
The Left Party demands a complete cessation of arms exports to Turkey and asserts that the German government is misleading the people when it claims that it does not agree to export arms to Turkey that can be used in multiple regions such as Syria, Libya and elsewhere.
