Since school started, many have been looking worriedly at the corona numbers.

So far there have been no major climbs.

The district office explains the procedure for positive tests.

Have there been any further corona cases at the schools in the district so far?

Individual classes or groups are currently in quarantine at four schools and three day-care centers.

Since even positive cases in schools are not to be treated differently than cases of individual people, the focus of the health department - as in all other cases - is primarily on immediately taking all measures for those infected and their environment.

However, there is no increased risk to the general public.

All those affected are informed directly by the health department or the facility.

Should there be a major outbreak that could possibly also affect a larger number of people or where the infection and contact routes can no longer be seamlessly traced, the public will of course be informed immediately.

How exactly does it work if a student tests positive?

If the health department receives a report from a laboratory that a person has tested positive for the coronavirus, the person will be informed immediately and asked about possible contact persons.

If it turns out that it is a student from a school in the Munich district, the health department will contact the school directly and clarify how to proceed.

However, if the infected person visits a school in the city of Munich or in a neighboring district, the responsible health department there is informed of the case, which then takes on the identification of contact persons or the further care of facilities.

In practice, however, the health department responsible for the index case often takes on the initial communication with the facilities concerned.

What criteria does the health department use to decide which students have to be in quarantine for how long and who has to take a test when?

Basically: If a confirmed case of COVID-19 disease occurs in a school class with a pupil, the entire class will be excluded from lessons for fourteen days and a quarantine will be ordered by the health department.

All students in the class are tested for SARS-CoV-2.

Category I contacts must in any case be in domestic isolation for at least 14 days, even if the test results are negative during this period.

For other contact persons who cannot be assigned to Category I, a sensible approach must be decided in each individual case.

For example, it may be the case that students who belong to the class group but who were absent from the infected student during the infection-relevant period do not have to be in quarantine.

The individual case must always be considered.
