The government decided today (Wednesday) in a telephone poll to accept the recommendation of the Ministry of Health and National Corona Commissioner Prof. Roni Gamzo, to close the entire education system tomorrow (except for special education and exceptions), including schools, kindergartens and day care centers.

It closes a day earlier than planned.

As mentioned, the small ministerial committee for the struggle in Corona decided last night to recommend to the government to close the educational institutions from the fifth grade onwards, but from Thursday, the government made a harsher decision.

The Ministerial Forum includes, among others, Health Minister Yuli Edelstein, Defense Minister Bnei Gantz and Minister Yizhar Shai.

The ministers also decided that B & Bs and hotels would be closed during the closure period.

Yes they decided not to allow takeaway in restaurants but only delivery service.

The ministers decided to allow bereaved families whose loved ones were killed in the Yom Kippur War to visit the cemeteries on the eve of Yom Kippur.

The entire outline will be submitted tomorrow for approval by the Knesset's Constitution Committee.

As you may recall, according to Education Minister Yoav Galant's program, classes are scheduled to resume only on Sunday, October 11th.

The decision of the Ministerial Committee comes, among other things, following the demand of the corona commissioner, Prof. Roni Gamzo, to immediately close the education system, and not to hold studies even today.

Those who oppose Gamzo's demand are the parents.

The education system already has tens of thousands of students in isolation (in non-red cities), and another 270,000 students living in the 40 red cities where there are no studies.

According to the national parents' leadership, "closing the education system immediately will in practice cause the parents to stay at home with the children instead of going to work. In simple words - the closure will begin de facto."

They further claim that "the decision-making process carried out by pulling from the waist, in the dead of night, on the basis of missing or outdated data, harms all citizens of the country and the public of parents and children in particular."

"As law-abiding citizens, we are obligated to act in accordance with the regulations, but when the regulations harm parents who want to support their families without any reason or justification, it is our duty to warn and inform decision-makers that the handshakes and power games will not be on the backs of Israeli parents."

According to the closure outline, there will be no activity in all the institutions, except for the special education system, which the Teachers' Union opposes.

The big controversy is distance learning.

While Minister Galant seeks to maintain distance learning at all age levels, parents argue that the move is ineffective and oppose distance learning and demand that the days be fully returned upon return to routine.

Another major problem is the lack of computers for distance learning - a shortage that so far the Ministry of Education has not found a solution to.

Meanwhile, there is one line for the grade enhancers in the matriculation exams - the Ministry of Education and the Minister of Education, Yoav Galant, have determined that the matriculation exams will be held on time, even during the closure days.

These are about 9,000 examinees who are expected to take matriculation exams in various subjects during the closure period in the coming month.

Most of them are graduates of the education system, grade enhancers who need grades soon to enroll in the upcoming academic year.
