Today a South African diamond producer found five blue stones that are among the rarest and most valuable in the world.
AFP quoted Petra Diamonds Limited as saying that LLB gems were discovered in a production area in the Cullinan Mine, about 40 kilometers east of Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa.
The company added that all the five stones discovered were single and not part of a larger diamond, and their sizes ranged between 9.61 and 25.75 carats.
Petra Limited stated in a statement that "blue diamonds are so rare that there are no official statistics on their extraction," noting that it is "unusual" to find "five high-quality stones around the same time."
It is noteworthy that the Cullinan mine is one of the most important sources of blue diamonds in the world, and according to the company, the last important discovery was similar to a 20.08 carat blue jewel that was found at the site a year ago, which was sold for 14.9 million dollars to an anonymous buyer.
