The Munich truck manufacturer MAN is threatened with deep cuts.

At the Munich site alone, up to 3,000 jobs are at risk.

Component production in Salzgitter is to be relocated to Krakow.

Munich - The truck manufacturer

MAN

is planning drastic cuts at its German locations.

According to information from Merkur.de * from corporate circles,

around 3,000 of the 9,000 jobs in

Munich

are at

stake.

Another 1200 jobs are to be cut at the MAN engine plant in

Nuremberg

.

The company employs around 3800 people there.

This means that

every third job

at the two largest

MAN Truck & Bus

locations in Germany would be at

risk, according to informed sources.

VW subsidiary wants to move component production from Salzgitter

In addition, the

VW

subsidiary

wants to

"withdraw the entire component production from Salzgitter and relocate it to the Krakow plant," a person familiar with the processes told Merkur.de on Wednesday.

Another 1,400 would be affected by the plans.

Measured against the total number of 2,400 employees, every second job in

Salzgitter

would be eliminated.

MAN

builds

axles and crankshafts

in

Salzgitter,

among other things.

The logistics center in Salzgitter is excluded from the plans, they say.

At its location in Lower Saxony, the group has brought together the entire supply of spare parts for its commercial vehicles.

A group spokesman declined to comment on Wednesday afternoon to Merkur.de, referring to the upcoming negotiations with the works council.

MAN: There is growing unrest among the workforce

Internally, too, the group has so far largely kept a low profile.

As a result, there is

growing unrest

at the German

MAN

locations.

Many employees are “totally insecure,” it is said from Nuremberg, for example.

The workforce is "in a state of excitement".

The mood at the main plant in Munich is also "catastrophic".

According to the plans published last Friday,

MAN

wants to cut

a total of 9,500 jobs.

The locations in

Steyr

(Austria),

Plauen

(Saxony) and

Wittlich

(Rhineland-Palatinate) are to be closed completely.

MAN boss Tostmann paints a gloomy picture of the situation internally

In support of this,

MAN

boss

Andreas Tostmann

said that

MAN

had to become significantly “more innovative, digital and sustainably more profitable”.

Internally, the CEO of

MAN Truck & Bus

, who has been in office since July, had

painted a gloomy picture of the current economic situation.

MAN

is "in a very difficult situation".

(...) Without the Volkswagen Group behind us, the situation would be threatening our very existence, ”said Tostmann in a video message * Merkur.de * published on Friday on the intranet.

MAN

slipped deep into the red in the first half of the year.

In operational terms, the company posted a loss of 387 million euros from January to June.

In the same period of the previous year,

MAN

had

earned 253 million euros operationally.

In view of the plans, the works council has already announced massive resistance.

"It cannot be that job cuts and site

closings

are the only solutions that the board can think of," said Group works council chief

Saki Stimoniaris

.

These are "management concepts from deep down out of the moth box."

How many positions will actually be lost at the respective locations is still completely open.

First the group has to negotiate with the works council.

The corresponding discussions could start in the next few days.

In addition, the respective state governments are likely to step into the breach for their locations.

Lower Saxony's Prime Minister

Stephan Weil

(SPD) is Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Volkswagen Group.

Bavaria's Prime Minister

Markus Söder

(CSU) has his constituency in

Nuremberg East

.

The Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs,

Hubert Aigner,

has already promised to support the maintenance of as many jobs as possible at the Munich-based truck manufacturer *.
