Clinical tests of the first chemical drug in Russia against smallpox were launched at the Russian "Viktor" Scientific Center for viruses.
Russia Today quoted the press office of the Ros-Potrib Nadzor Authority, which controls consumption, as saying in a statement that the Russian Scientific Center "Victor" developed the first Russian chemical medicine for emergency prevention against smallpox in cooperation with the Russian "Vorugtsov" Institute of Organic Chemistry at the Academy of Sciences. The Russian Federation indicated that the Russian drug will become the second medicine in the world for emergency prevention against smallpox and other diseases related to the smallpox virus.
The statement added that the clinical tests, which will take 174 days, will involve 90 volunteers between the ages of 18 and 50.
It is noteworthy that the American drug "Techoferimat" is still the only drug against smallpox, and it was registered in July 2018 in the United States.
