President Trump confirmed a previous report that a White House staff member tested positive for coronavirus.

(CNN) -

President Trump confirmed a previous report that a White House staff member tested positive for coronavirus.

“I found out this morning on a very small level, yes.

I found out this morning, ”Trump said at a press conference at the White House on Wednesday.

"Last night I found out for the first time and it is a small number of cases, maybe they are not even cases," he added, contradicting himself when he first learned of the positive case.

Press secretary Kayleigh McEnany later said it was only one person who tested positive.

"It didn't affect the event and the journalists weren't around the individual," McEnany said, apparently referring to the president's event last night in Philadelphia.

"And there is no one who is close to me," added Trump.

"He was a person, not a person with whom he was associated."

Trump did not respond when asked if it was at the event in Philadelphia.

The information comes from today's foreign press group reporter, Raquel Krähenbühl, who wrote on Twitter earlier today that she was told that the press group was tested this afternoon because: “It was a very busy morning.

Today we had a couple of positive cases.

It is not clear who told the reporter for the foreign press group this, and the information has not been included in any report of the group seen by CNN.

The White House declined to comment on the matter for CNN.

Earlier, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows told reporters: "I do not comment on any health-related issue as it relates to the White House."

The alleged case of positive coronavirus inside the White House comes a day after visits by Trump allies and foreign delegations from Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain for the signing of peace agreements.
