The civil defense crews and the Agriculture Directorate in As-Suwayda governorate extinguished this evening a fire that broke out in a forested area northeast of Tal Jaljela, east of the city of Sweida, that came on about two dunams of forest trees and dry grass.
The head of the Forestry Department in the Directorate of Agriculture in Swaida, Eng. Anas Abu Fakhr, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent that the fire broke out in the northeastern foot of Tal Jaljela in a forested area within private property adjacent to the Damnah Nature Reserve, where the staff of the Agriculture, Forestry and Civil Defense Directorate rushed to deal with it and extinguish it before it expanded widely, indicating That the fire spread about two dunams of oak trees and dry weeds before it was brought under control.
Abu Fakhr suggested that the fire was contrived, especially since the firefighting teams that rushed to the place found the road leading to the place of the fire closed with stones about a hundred meters before it, with the intention of impeding the arrival of the firefighting crews who had to open it to be able to reach the site of the spread of fire and extinguish it.
For his part, Omar Baraka, commander of the firefighting group in the Civil Defense Directorate that participated in extinguishing the fire, explained that the concerted efforts of the forestry and agricultural personnel with the civil defense contributed to containing, controlling and cooling the fire before it spread to wider areas after working for nearly two hours after they were forced to open the road leading to The place is made of stones.
