In June last year, Hong Kong started anti-revision demonstrations. The "PolyU Incident" occurred in mid-November. The police surrounded PolyU for more than 10 days and clashed with demonstrators.

Yau Tsim Mong District Council Li Ao-ran said that he received a request from the public last night (16th) that he had accepted the emotional support of Caritas’ hotline from Ching Heen, but recently received a notice stating that the USB finger storing the personal information of the helper has been lost .

Li Aoran said that personal information includes the full name of the person seeking help, ID number and the content of the conversation. He is worried about the whereabouts of the information and the consequences or unthinkable.

"Hong Kong 01" is asking Caritas Xiang Qing Xuan about this.

PolyU replied that it was notified by Caritas of the missing USB finger containing the personal data of PolyU students. It is understood that almost all data files in the device are encrypted, but some of them are unencrypted and involve data of several students.

PolyU stated that it would once again urge Caritas to strictly abide by the personal data protection requirements set out in the tender document and provide appropriate assistance and support to affected students.

Caritas arranged for PolyU to answer the emotional support hotline for PolyU earlier. Li Aoran said that last night they received 2 requests for help, involving 3 cases, and received a notification from Qingxuan, stating that they have USB fingers with the information of the seekers. It has been lost, which involves the content of the dialogue, the full name and ID number.

Li said that one of the helpers cried about this, worried that the information might be used illegally, and mentioned that his friend also received the same notice.

Li Aoran stated that a PolyU staff member confirmed the incident. He has also inquired about the incident with Caritas, but no reply was received.

He criticized that the current public focuses on personal privacy. The content of the dialogue during counseling not only reveals the feelings of the person seeking help, but also involves personal background. He is worried that if the destination of the relevant information is unknown, the consequences may be unthinkable. "It is very big. listen!"
