Jorge Arreaza, foreign minister of the questioned government of Nicolás Maduro, said this Wednesday that the report presented by a UN mission on human rights violations in Venezuela is "full of falsehoods."

This is the first official reaction to the UN report on Venezuela.

Arreaza highlighted in her Twitter account that the report was "prepared remotely, without any methodological rigor, by a phantom mission directed against Venezuela and controlled by governments subordinate to Washington."

In addition, she added that the publication of the document "illustrates the perverse practice of doing politics with human rights and not human rights politics."

Also, the official highlighted the cooperation of the Venezuelan government with the UN Human Rights Council, through High Commissioner Michele Bachelet.

On the side of Juan Guaidó, whom more than 50 countries have recognized as interim president, there is satisfaction with the report's conclusions.

"These types of reports generate a rare joy," said Miguel Pizarro, commissioner for the UN of the Guaidó team.

"Without a doubt, seeing so many violations and so many abuses documented and concentrated in a single document is heartbreaking," he added.

What the UN report says about Venezuela

A UN report accused the Venezuelan government of "crimes against humanity."

An independent international fact-finding mission released the report on Wednesday.

The mission works for the United Nations Human Rights Council.

The report investigated 223 cases of extrajudicial executions, forced disappearances, arbitrary detentions, and torture in Venezuela.

They also reviewed 2,891 additional incidents to corroborate patterns of rape and crime.

The UN Independent International Investigation Mission on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela found that the Venezuelan government, as well as other state agents and groups working with them, had committed "egregious violations."

"The Mission found reasonable grounds to believe that the Venezuelan authorities and security forces have planned and carried out serious human rights violations since 2014," said Marta Valiñas, president of the organization.

And she added that some of these violations "including arbitrary executions and the systematic use of torture" constitute "crimes against humanity".
