Not even in her best dreams did

Luli Torn

imagine this adventure:

living on an island paradise, falling in love and traveling the world in the midst of a pandemic

.

An ideal setting to feel free in times of confinement.

She has been out of Argentina for 9 months and her life became a seesaw of emotions.

It could also be a romantic comedy script, because it has everything: uncertainty, romance, learning, challenges, and an open ending.

But happy.

The story starts like this: Luli came from two years of working non-stop after being part of 100 days to fall in love (because of her resemblance to Nancy Dupláa as her character as a girl), and later she joined the strip Argentina, tierra de amor and revenge

(ATAV

).

She was looking forward to a long trip to enjoy a well-deserved vacation.

And she put it together with a group of friends from school.

There were five: two women and three men.

Luli and Tom: a crush on paradise.

They left on December 30, 2019 for Bangkok.

They toured Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia.

The men returned and she continued traveling with her friend Juli through Malaysia, the Philippines and Bali.

It was then that the world panicked over the coronavirus

: “We were aware of what was happening, but very sideways.

We did not have a good internet connection.

We knew that the virus had been generated in China and was spreading.

And when we got to Bali they announced that they were going to close the borders of Argentina and my friend told me: 'I'll go back.'

I don't know what went through my head, but I felt that I had to stay, that my adventure was not finished.

And luckily I was not wrong.

However, Luli was not determined: “I had a very long conversation with my parents.

They are clinicians and conspirators.

They told me that in Buenos Aires I was going to be locked up and that, in turn, if I stayed, my return was uncertain.

I don't know what went through my head, but I felt that I had to stay, that my adventure was not finished.

And luckily I was not wrong.

I let myself be carried away by intuition and continued the trip alone to see Southeast Asia ”, she reviews.

Moving and crush

But in Bali (Indonesia) things began to get complicated: “They were beginning to close everything and there were few safety and hygiene measures, but many parties.

Everything was kind of confusing.

So with a group of friends who had made me in a hostel, we decided to go to Gili Trawangan, a tiny island in the middle of the ocean, near Bali, to see how everything evolved.

And by the way, diving.

I was leaving for 7 days, so I put together a bag with three leggings, three tops and two shorts.

And what happened?

I came to Gili and was delighted with the island.

In Bali the contagions had grown so it was safer to stay there ”, she says, planted in her 26 years.

Natural Goddess: Luli Torn.

Fate had a surprise in store for him: to fall in love.

Luli had contracted a diving course with the

Manta

school

.

She had been assigned a Catalan instructor, the one who is usually with the Latino group.

But in the same boat that they went out to take classes with, was Tom Mazur, another instructor from the school.

“We saw each other from afar and greeted each other.

I had already signed him (laughs).

One afternoon I went to talk to him because they told me that he managed two hotels and I was looking for accommodation.

The same day that he showed me the room for my friend and me, he invited me to have a drink and we did not part anymore

.

It was love at first sight.

We moved in right away.

We have been full for 5 months.

What made me fall in love with him?

His passion for diving and his generosity.

He is adventurous and hardworking.

I deeply admire him, ”Luli describes.

Life in paradise

The routine on the island of Gili was

dawn without an alarm clock

, but early.

Then she went to the beach to do sports. She spent little: “Only on food.

Around one euro per day.

She ate fruit, vegetables, some chicken, meat, and fish.

On the island everything was rice and noodles.

With Tom we cooked a lot ... I even taught him how to make gnocchi!

Then I took all the diving courses I had and to have.

Imagine being a girlfriend with an instructor!

That's why I fuck up I'm already a mermaid.

I spent it all the time in the water.

Scales have already come out ”.

In the depths of the turquoise sea, Luli was not alone: “She lived with turtles as if they were dogs.

You went into the sea and there they were.

It was the most magical in the world.

There were also stingrays and sharks.

They are harmless".

"I was living diving off the island of Gili. I was already like a little mermaid," says Luli Torn.

Italian blood

The spread of the pandemic made Luli and her boyfriend rethink how to proceed: “I had the permission that they had given us to foreigners stranded in Indonesia until the health emergency was over.

We thought it was going to be in August, but no.

So with Tom we started thinking about alternatives.

He, evaluating his job possibilities, realized that renewing his work visa on the island did not make any sense because there is no tourism.

And since we still can't go to Argentina,

we decided to go to Belgium

, where he could start the school year as a physical education teacher on September 1 ”.

“Luckily,” he adds, “I have an Italian passport, but it had expired and I had left it in Buenos Aires!

So I scrambled heaven and earth to get it

.

I went to the Argentine Embassy in Jakarta.

They took a long time to answer me, but one day the email arrived that in two days I had to present myself at the Embassy.

I was on Lombok, at that time, another island.

So Tom took me on his motorcycle to take my photo and make the required photocopies, buy a ticket, take the Covid-19 test and leave for Jakarta.

I was able to renew it and then we bought the ticket to Belgium.

A happiness".

They have been living in Belgium for a month with Tom's parents.

More precisely, in Maasmechelen, a neighboring town to the Netherlands: “We arrived and did quarantine plus another Covid test to protect their parents.

And we are happy together.

Dads are incredible, very similar to mine.

They entertained us, bought us wine and cheese that we hadn't eaten for a long time ”.

I was a bit scared when they said they were going to close the island and leave us isolated: there are no hospitals there.

Just a pharmacy!

Adventurous heritage

As a girl, Luli, enjoyed a "different" vacation.

Marcela, the mother, works at the Italian Hospital and Andrés, the father, was director of the Las Lomas sanatorium in San Isidro for many years and today he is consulting.

Back then, to unplug, the Torn chose nature.

“My parents were always very adventurous.

We weren't your typical Disney family

.

We did a safari through South Africa;

Again we rented a house on San Andrés Island, in the Caribbean, and we stayed for a month and a half.

I went swimming every day.

I was always very adventurous.

All the trips were crazy and super cool.

Somehow I reconnected with that, ”he remarks.

Luli grew up and lived her entire life in Vicente López, near Olivos.

Besides life outdoors, she liked art.

She began studying musical comedy at age 6 and did not stop.

When she finished high school, at the Nacional Buenos Aires, she enrolled at

UNA

(National University of the Arts), where she received a Bachelor of Acting.

Luli Torn fell in love with the diving instructor, Tom Mazur.

They are together in Belgium.

“I started in advertising and then I got into the world of television.

It was difficult at first.

Do you know how many times they said no to me?

Or: 'Your casting was great, but so-and-so's daughter has the role.'

But everything has improved in the last 3 years, after I did

Cast,

on Telefé, a very cool initiative of the channel to select artists and put them to work on the different platforms, ”he says.

-Do you miss acting?

-Yes, of course, I am passionate about the profession.

I love the stage and I always did theater.

Last year at

ATAV

we had a spectacular time.

-What else do you miss?

-The mate.

He finds it strange.

I didn't bring it to the trip because it took up space.

I just came backpacking.

Also, the dulce de leche.

And I love alfajores!

- At some point did you feel anguish or want to return?

-Not at all, I never attacked myself.

With normal life, maybe I was guilty.

But from Argentina everyone told me: "Stay there please."

The feeling was: "I'm not missing anything."

- Was there a difficult situation?

-Not.

I was a bit scared when they said they were going to close the island and leave us isolated: there are no hospitals there

.

There is only one pharmacy!

There was never a census on Gili: the island is 7 kilometers around, nothing more.

They said there was a doctor, but of doubtful origin.

But I adapted and relaxed.

I got allergies on my skin, because it is full of bugs everywhere.

Every time I went into the sea, I came out all bitten by the living waters or the jellyfish.

Luli Torn, actress

-Any unforeseen?

-I had allergies on my skin, because it's full of bugs everywhere.

Every time I went into the sea, I came out all bitten by the living waters or the jellyfish.

But I would call my parents and they would tell me what to wear.

I ran out of all my creams.

I had no way to cleanse my face or anything to moisturize it.

It's bullshit, but being an actress I work with my image.

Anyway, I found a place that sold natural products and I threw it away.

When I arrived in Europe, I ordered creams through

Amazon

and that's it.

Luli Torn between China Suárez and Anita Pauls in ATAV.

-How is this adventure going?

-For now, tour Europe.

I want to know all of Belgium, Holland and, of Germany, Berlin.

Tom wants to come to Argentina when he can. If there is something that the pandemic left me, it is to think about the present.

The adventure around the world made me be very in the here and now, I focus only on next week.

-They have been five months of intense romance, surely they are already thinking about the wedding ...

- (

Laughter

s) As I am free, I am also re Susanita.

I see myself married to Tom with little children, swimming in the sea

.

I still don't want to abandon my career in Argentina, but I do imagine a more nomadic life.

Work a few months on a project, go, come.

But yes, it is a movie story.

I have friends who write to me and say: “We are saving for the wedding in Indonesia”.

In principle, we will see how to undertake the return at the end of the year.

The same intuition that made me stay in Indonesia is the one that will choose when I have to return

.

-Did you think about writing a book or a travel diary with experiences?

-Many advise me to do it, but I'm not very inspired.

I always gave myself to enjoy the adventure.

Maybe I will.

Meanwhile, I prefer to live it
