It's a lie that Biden wants to tear down the border wall

2020-09-17T22:55:51.659Z

Trump is lying: what the Democratic candidate has said is that he will not build more border barriers and that he will reinforce security with technology.

By Miriam Valverde - PolitiFact

In accepting the Republican nomination for re-election, President Donald Trump said that the immigration plan of his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, would be detrimental to Americans.

In his speech from the White House, Trump noted that his opponent would undo one of the projects the president is most proud of: the construction of the border wall.

“Biden's plan removes America's borders in the middle of a pandemic,” Trump said Aug. 27, “and he's even talking about tearing down the wall.

How are you?!"

Is Trump Right?

Not.

Biden does not plan to eliminate the borders

and has not said he will demolish the barrier that the Trump administration is expanding and reinforcing.

We asked the White House and the Trump campaign for evidence to support what the president said.

We receive nothing.

They warn that part of the border wall may collapse

What Biden has said is that construction of the wall will not continue.

On August 6, NPR broadcaster asked Biden: "Trump campaigned with the slogan 'Build the wall.'

Are you willing to tear it down?

"Not.

Number one: not one more foot of wall will be built during my administration, "Biden replied," number two: I will make sure we have protection at the border, but with high-tech capability and at the ports of entry.

That's where all the bad is happening ”.

Biden's immigration plan says that most of the contraband enters the United States through authorized ports of entry, and that

nearly half of the people who are undocumented in the country entered on a visa that later expired, not who crossed the border illegally.

Biden contends that Trump has misused resources by targeting the wall.

If elected, Biden assures that he will "allocate federal resources to intelligent border surveillance efforts", such as

cameras, sensors, X-ray machines and fixed towers

at and between points of entry.

“Like any country, the United States has the right and duty to secure its borders and protect its population from threats,” says Biden's plan, “but we know that immigrants are not a threat to our security, and the Government never he must use xenophobia or scare tactics to scare voters and gain political gain ”.

Democrats demand that the construction of the wall on the border with Mexico stop

Tearing down border barriers is also not among the recommendations of a task force that Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders formed to help unify Democrats.

In his acceptance speech and in previous speeches, Trump has misrepresented several elements of that group's recommendations.

The task force called Trump's border barriers "unnecessary, inefficient and ineffective," but

did not propose to tear them down.

It should be noted that

Trump has not built

300 miles of border wall, as he boasts.

What he refers to are mainly replacements of old barriers.

Before Trump took office, the nearly 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border already had 654 miles of barriers.

Trump said Biden "is even talking about tearing down the wall."

Biden didn't say that.

Biden is opposed to building barriers at the border

, but has not said he will demolish existing structures.

Trump's claim is false.
