A short circuit could have caused the fire in the apartment in which designer

Elsa Serrano

lived

.

This was reported to

Clarín by city

sources.

At the scene, firefighters found a charred body.

After noon, the relatives recognized that it was the designer, 73 years old.

The autopsy determined that she died

asphyxiated by smoke inhalation

.

Before authorities confirmed her identity, friends and clients began to fire her through social media.

According to the sources consulted, the short circuit could have been generated in a

transformer

of a lamp that was located next to one of the apartment windows.

Serrano lived alone, in Maipú, between Marcelo T. de Alvear and Paraguay, in the Retiro neighborhood.

"At the moment, work is being done on the site again, checking all the facilities. This was done last night, but it was decided to return to work also with daylight," they reported from the City.

The designer's neighbors woke up today with television mobiles on the sidewalks and a team of firefighters working on the site again.

Furniture and accessories burned in the Maipú street apartment, where designer Elsa Serrano died of suffocation.

The building in which Elsa Serrano lived is

a construction from the early 1900s,

with three floors and six apartments.

The designer lived alone, in the third, towards the interior of the block.

That is why there are no traces of the fire on the facade.

Since March 20,

there has been very little movement in the neighborhood.

A few meters from Plaza San Martín, a quarantined weekday is like a Saturday or Sunday, but without tourists.

On the other hand, the population density is very low.

They work mostly offices.

The house is very close to the Paz and Haedo palaces.

Some neighbors - especially those who work in nearby premises - were unaware that Serrano was a neighbor.

Others saw her go down to do some shopping: "With this issue of quarantine, I stopped seeing many neighbors.

There are many who are older adults

,

"

the manager of a food establishment told

Clarín

.

The Criminal, Misconduct and Misdemeanor Prosecutor's Office 12, headed by Sebastián Fedullo, is working on the

investigation

.

So far it is known that it was

the neighbors who called the emergency.

A relative confirmed that Serrano lived alone and that she did not have a domestic worker working in her home.

Top designer.

Elsa Serrano dressed great figures from Argentina.

She died Wednesday when her Retirement apartment caught fire.

The first notice arrived minutes before 8:00 p.m.

First, the staff of the Neighborhood Police Station 1A, located less than three blocks from Elsa Serrano's home, approached the place;

then came the Buenos Aires Firefighters Special Rescue Group, from the Caballito detachment.

The Volunteer Firefighters of San Telmo and the Special Rescue Brigade of the Federal Police also participated.

They had to break down the door

of the apartment, which was armored.

Meanwhile, the building was

evacuated

.

It was the neighbors who warned that the designer lived there.

Firefighters controlled the source of the fire, and found the woman's cremated body.

In social networks, friends, celebrities and acquaintances dedicated messages to him.

Also in many pages related to fashion: in @outfitbuenosaires they remembered her career and her rise to fame as a designer of Zulema Yoma and Zulema Menem, during the presidency of

Carlos Menem

.

Fashion consultant Matilda Blanco (@matildablanco) shared a photo with the designer, in the backsatge of the television program Corte y Confección.

And they even remembered her who were her providers.

One of the most exclusive fabric stores in the country, Sedería José, in Barracas, dedicated a post to him: "We will remember your person, beyond the fact that you were one of the best in haute couture", they published in @josesederia
