Munich Airport: A new conflict is looming over the third runway in Bavaria's government coalition.
The CSU makes it clear that the railway has not been canceled forever.

Munich Airport
.
But is the plan finally off the table?
The CSU parliamentary group in Bavaria does not want to remove the new slope in Erdinger Moos from the agenda in the long term.
The project, which Markus Söder has rejected, is related to the construction of a
new S-Bahn tunnel
.
Munich Airport - Are old conflicts breaking up again?
The Free Voters have strong sympathy for the demands of the
runway opponents
to finally extinguish all plans for the unpopular
runway
.
Part of the "complete end" for the
third runway
is to delete the project from the state development program, said the leader of the Free Voters in the state parliament, Florian Streibl, to our newspaper.
"We will actively promote this in the Bavarian coalition and encourage the coalition partners to follow our stance," announced Streibl.
He does not want to touch the construction decision - that is not important, since Prime Minister Markus Söder has announced that he will not pursue the construction until 2028.
And then a new decision or an extension is necessary.
The question only arose after the next state election, says Streibl.
Munich Airport: Third runway will not come - but only until 2028
In the state development program, the
construction of the runway
is defined as the goal - which the airport region sees as a latent threat and "sword of Damocles".
It is not to be expected that the CSU will follow the junior partner's request in the state parliament.
It is not necessary to change the state development program, says CSU parliamentary group leader Thomas Kreuzer.
There is now clarity until 2028. “We are of one opinion because in the current economic situation and in the next few years, the third runway will not be needed.” Mind you: In the next few years - not forever.
And further: From the
point of view of the CSU parliamentary group,
there is also “no need to repeal the planning approval decision”, says Kreuzer.
The former CSU economic politician Erwin Huber points out that the
planning approval decision
not only regulates the construction of the runway, but also a
new S-Bahn tunnel
.
The shell is already finished and is to become part of the Erdinger Ringschluss, i.e. the
rail link
between Erding and the airport
.
If the decision is revoked, says Huber, then the new rail connection is "legally up in the air".
“That's right,” says the spokesman for the anti-runway alliance “Aufgemuckt”, Christian Magerl.
However, a plan approval decision can also be split up.
Legally, that would be an amendment.
"It's tricky, but not impossible."
Third runway at Munich Airport: CSU man Huber opens the back door
Incidentally, CSU man Huber does
not oppose Söder's announcement
.
"In the new situation, of course, the planning of a third runway has to be stopped," he says.
"Investments in transport infrastructure depend on the unavoidable need and profitability." With Huber adding the following: "And not on the term of office of coalitions and politicians."
Third runway off the table at Munich Airport in the medium term.
Whereby: If # Söder were to become Chancellor in the short term, "his term of office" would be over quickly.

Huber was one of the
fiery defenders of the third runway
in the CSU
.
In Horst Seehofer's time, he even collected signatures from members of parliament in order
to
nail
the Prime Minister to a
yes to the runway
.
At that time, Seehofer had indicated that he would question the need.
Almost 80 percent of the MPs signed;
Söder was not there as a cabinet member.
Munich Airport is considered a socially generous employer - also because of the state's ownership.
Corona, however, forces FMG to "adjust the personnel situation".
