The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs David Stilwell attended the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on September 17, accusing China of its recent global actions not by responsible countries, but by "lawless bullies."
Stawell said that the United States does not want other countries to choose sides on China's issues, but to stand up against China's "evil" behavior and protect its sovereignty and economic interests.
He also pointed out that competition between the United States and China does not necessarily cause conflicts. When the interests of the two countries are the same, Washington seeks to cooperate with Beijing, such as the North Korean issue.
Shi Dawei pointed out that in the past few months, Beijing has made excessive behaviors, including the Sino-Indian border conflict, and the South China Sea, and the "provocative" behaviors surrounding Taiwan and disputed waters between China and Japan.
He mentioned China's attempts to obliterate Mongolian and Tibetan culture, continued repression and forced labor operations in Xinjiang, and implemented "strict" national security laws in Hong Kong.
Shi Dawei also pointed out that Washington will continue to develop relations with Taiwan and provide weapons to ensure that Taiwan can be defended, but emphasized that Washington will abide by the "One China" policy.
Philip Reeker, the Chief Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasian Affairs (Affair), said that the United States is arranging high-level talks with the European Union later this month or early next month to initiate dialogue on China.
