The French manufacturer has unveiled the first images of the car which will line up from 2022 in the World Endurance Championship as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The French manufacturer Peugeot will line up from 2022 in the WEC endurance world championship and the 24 hours of Le Mans in the new “Hypercar” category, he announced on Friday.

This LMH (Le Mans Hypercar) category was created by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), organizer of the Le Mans endurance race and the WEC championship.

It is to succeed the LMP1 and LMP2 cars which are still racing this year.

The principle of the LMH is to bring endurance cars closer to big sports cars on the market, even if these hypercars could be based on prototypes, in order to attract new manufacturers.

The cars will use hybrid powertrain technologies.

“The choice of the LMH category was dictated by several criteria, including that of a certain aerodynamic freedom.

This makes it possible to integrate, with the support of Peugeot's design, the aesthetic codes of the brand, ”the French manufacturer said in a press release.

He announced last November his return to the endurance world championship due to the introduction of this new category and the reductions in development costs that it implies.

Peugeot, which has three Le Mans successes in 1992, 1993 and 2009, left endurance racing in 2012 for budgetary reasons.

The start of the 88th edition of the event will be given on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. by Carlos Tavares, CEO of the PSA group.

@Peugeot and @TotalRacingENG develop a '' Le Mans Hypercar '' and reveal the first conceptions of design for the future racecar.
