Deng Longwei, a Hong Kong citizen who was imprisoned for life in a drug case in the Philippines in 2000, filed a final appeal on the case the year before and presented new evidence for his first court appearance. The Philippines provided Deng’s record of entering the Philippines that year, proving that Deng was in the Philippines in 2000. The rationale for poisoning and calling the blame is weak.
With regard to the new evidence presented by the defense in the case, the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines obtained the entry and exit records of the year from the Philippine Immigration Bureau. It shows that Deng entered the Philippines on June 19, 2000, which means that the Philippine police made a statement in June. The evidence of Deng’s surveillance in the Philippines from 1 to 12 was not valid. The verdict pointed out that the relevant evidence could barely prove that Deng arrived in the Philippines on that day, and the police monitored Deng until July 17 of that year. The evidence failed to convince the court. There is a factual error.
The judgment also stated that the Philippines’ efforts to combat transnational drug trafficking organizations should not be obstructed, and criminals involved in large-scale drug trafficking cases should not be encouraged.
