The British government's latest Brexit plan not only shakes the EU's head in Brussels.
He has now also persuaded Amal Clooney to take action: the prominent human rights lawyer has resigned from her post as Great Britain's special envoy for media freedom.
This emerges from a letter from Clooney to the British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab, published by the British "Guardian".
Clooney cites Prime Minister Boris Johnson's latest project in the Brexit negotiations with the European Union as the reason for her resignation.
The British government plans to open the agreement with the EU on Northern Ireland by law, which Johnson himself signed.
The responsible State Secretary Brandon Lewis recently admitted that the government's consideration of the amendment to the provisions in the Withdrawal Treaty with the EU "to a very specific and limited extent" violates international law.
In his letter to Raab, Clooney called the government's conduct "deplorable".
She was "horrified", writes Clooney, when she learned that the government was planning a law which, if passed, would break international law.
She is disappointed that she has to take this step, according to Clooney.
"I have always been proud of the UK's reputation as an advocate of international law and the 'fair play' culture for which it is known."
After the details of the "Internal Market Bill" became known last week, she initially held back.
Since she has received no assurance that a change in government position is imminent, she sees "no alternative" to resigning.
