The signing of this agreement aims in particular to strengthen measures already put in place by the gendarmerie and equine federations, such as the establishment of a single number or the awareness of owners of this phenomenon.

Since August, acts of mutilation mainly of horses have been reported all over the territory.

About 200 investigations have been opened but only about thirty cases are considered of human nature, according to the gendarmerie.

For the investigators, the motivations are diverse (challenge on the internet, satanic practices, hatred of equines, mimicry, etc.) and multiple perpetrators.

The agreement was signed by the National Federation of Horse Councils, the French Equestrian Federation, the French Society of Working Equids, the French Institute of Horse and Riding and the National Federation of Horse Races (France Galop and the Trot).
