The Palestinian theater, along with other creative arts such as poetry, music and plastic art, played a prominent role in defending the Palestinian cause and emphasizing its authentic national identity.

Within the context of the discussion of the reality of the “father of arts” in the occupied lands and the diaspora countries and his suffering as a result of the Zionist occupation and displacement, the symposium held by the Association for Research and Studies in the Palestinian Writers Union titled “The Palestinian theater between absence and absenteeism” touched on the distinctive features of this theater and ways to advance its reality.

At the beginning of the symposium, the Secretary of the Society, the researcher Najla Al-Khadra, spoke about the emergence of the Palestinian theater and its role in devoting the culture of resistance, after which the playwright Dawoud Abu Shakra presented some of the influential Palestinian theatrical works, such as the exoticism of Zarif. In popular Palestinian singing, such as Zarif, Ataba, and Dalouna.

Abu Shakra emphasized the necessity of going Arab theater in general and Palestinian theater in particular, with constructive directions such as relying on heritage and establishing identity.

Abu Shakra devoted an aspect of his experience with the Palestinian theater in the symposium, specifically through the presentation of the “Tweet of Abu al-Salam” written and directed by the late actor Abdul Rahman Abu al-Qasim, through which he addressed the suffering of the Palestinian refugee in his diaspora and his adherence to his homeland despite all the living and social pressures, the temptations of immigration, his national affiliation, and the right of return.

The critical reporter of the Association for Research and Studies, Ahmed Ali Hilal, touched on the most important challenges and obstacles facing Palestinian theater and the horizons of the culture of resistance that this art that brings together all kinds of arts can spread.

At the end of the symposium, a door was opened for discussion about the reality and prospects of the Palestinian theater.
