The reckless climber began his ascent around 7:30 pm this Friday evening, under the gaze of stunned passers-by.

All eyes were on the sky, this Friday evening, at the foot of the Montparnasse tower (Paris XIV).

“When I left the station around 7:30 pm, I saw the Samu, the firefighters, the police… I thought that something serious was happening”, tells the Parisian Claire.

As "everyone had their heads in the air", the young woman looks up.

“There I see a man, in a white t-shirt, climbing the skyscraper with his bare hands and without a rope.

Onlookers, massed at the foot of the building, try to understand what is happening.

“At first, we were afraid it was a suicide attempt.

But the man seems particularly at ease.

"He was climbing quietly, in a very fluid way, as if he had been doing this all his life!"

Claire notes.

And to add: “We understood that it was a challenge.

"

Applauded by the crowd

While the climber is in the middle of his ascent, a rescuer rappels down from the roof of the Montparnasse tower.

“The professional joined him, then accompanied him to the top.

He stayed beside, or below him, as if to assist him.
